Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 4, 2026

TmCount (“we”, “us”) helps people split group expenses. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using TmCount you agree to this policy.

Who we are

TmCount is provided as a web app and mobile applications. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected] from the address on your account.

Information we collect

Account data: email address, display name, and password (stored hashed). We also assign a public user id for inviting others.

Group and expense data: groups, members, categories, expenses, income, transfers, balances, audit history, and optional group preferences you set in the app.

Billing: plan tier and subscription status. On the web we use Stripe; on iOS/Android we use Apple/Google via RevenueCat. Payment card details are handled by those providers, not stored by TmCount.

Device and notifications: push notification tokens (native or web push) when you enable notifications, plus basic device/app metadata needed to deliver them.

Technical logs: IP address, timestamps, and error diagnostics may appear in server logs for security and reliability.

Cookies and local storage

On the web app we store authentication tokens in browser local storage (and similar storage APIs) so you stay signed in. We may also store UI preferences (for example theme) and privacy-notice dismissal on your device.

We do not use those tokens for advertising. Separately, advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies as described below.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

On the free tier of the web app we may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or device identifiers to show personalized or non-personalized ads, measure performance, and prevent fraud.

Premium and partner (TM) accounts are ad-free. Native iOS/Android builds do not use AdSense.

Learn how Google uses data for advertising and how to control personalized ads at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

In the European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland we use Google's certified Privacy & messaging / Funding Choices consent mechanism before ads where required. You can change or withdraw consent through that mechanism or your browser/ad settings.

How we use information

We use your data to provide the service (groups, expenses, balance, invites, notifications), authenticate you, enforce plan limits, process subscriptions, improve reliability, and comply with law. Encrypted groups use the encryption mode you enable; see in-app encryption notices for details.

Sharing

We share data with processors that help us run TmCount: hosting and database providers, Stripe or RevenueCat for billing, push delivery services, and Google for AdSense on the free web app. Group members you invite can see shared group content. We do not sell your personal information.

Retention

We keep account and group data while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing [email protected] from your registered email. We may retain limited records needed for legal, security, or billing obligations.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us at [email protected] to exercise these rights. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

TmCount is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). Do not create an account if you are under that age.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new effective date on this page. Continued use after changes means you accept this policy.
