Importing from Tricount

Bring an existing trip into TmCount from Tricount export files, including community extractor spreadsheets, without retyping every line.

01

Why import exists

If you already tracked a trip in Tricount, retyping every expense is slow and easy to get wrong. TmCount can import common Tricount export formats so members, amounts, and splits arrive as a starting point. You review the group after import and continue logging new expenses in TmCount.

Import is a one-way copy into a TmCount group. It does not keep a live sync with Tricount. After you switch, add new bills in TmCount so balances stay in one place.

02

Files that work

Older Tricount versions offered a CSV export that TmCount can read. Newer Tricount versions removed that export. In that case, a common path is to run a community extractor against your Tricount registry id, which produces an Excel workbook, then share or open that file in TmCount.

The workbook layout TmCount expects includes members, entries, and allocations. Unequal splits and expense, income, and transfer types can come across when they are present in the file. If something is missing after import, add or edit the row in TmCount rather than editing the spreadsheet and importing twice unless you are starting from a clean group.

03

How to import

Open the destination group, go to Import, and pick the file. On Android you can also share the file into TmCount from a file manager. On the web, choose the file from disk. Placeholders are created for people who do not yet have a TmCount account, which is normal for a trip that started in another app.

After import, check a few expensive rows, the member list, and the balance tab. If a name does not match an existing account, you can link it later when that person signs up. Do not treat import as a substitute for looking at the totals once.

04

Exporting back out

Premium and partner plans can export a TmCount group to an Excel file in the same extractor-style layout. That is useful for a backup, a handover, or moving data into another group. Free accounts can still import; export is a paid capability.

If you only needed TmCount for one imported trip, you can archive the group when it is settled. The import guide is here so you can do that migration without guessing which columns matter.
